Pre Spring Summer 2022

Pre Spring Summer signals an evolution for Victoria Beckham, and the modern woman herself. ‘Considered fashion underscored by a distinct wearability’ reads the new-season manifesto, and a resulting laid-back, undone aesthetic emerges. This collection reflects the change in how, and why we get dressed.

“Flexibility is a word that’s really come into its own over the past year. Obviously flexi-working has become the norm but it goes beyond that, it’s about flexibility in every area of our lives. So this is flexi-dressing. Versatile, adaptable clothing that still looks, and feels, really great.”

Fresh proportions

The cornerstones of the house are still present – tailoring, unexpected colour pairings, positive prints – but there’s a notable shift in attitude. Marrying the aspirational codes of Victoria Beckham with the youthful spirit of VVB, new proportions step centre stage: backs are lowered, hemlines are either raised or crafted to elegantly puddle on the floor. It’s sophisticated, fluid and altogether softer.

“There’s a deliberate high-low balance. Elegant, floor-sweeping gowns are given low backs and delicate details – but they’re made from jersey. Tailoring nods to cargo pants, with pockets and a structured-yet-slouchy fit. There’s a practicality, an ease.”

Modern eclecticism

Offbeat prints are woven into the fabric of VB, and this season’s motifs speak to an abundance of irreverent reference points. A chain print feels contemporary with its bold graphic handwriting, quietly shrugging off any archaic association, while swarms of Koi carp dance joyfully across silk and jersey pieces to majestic effect.

Dressing up is revisited

After-dark tailoring takes its cues from the 70s, with masculine cuts layered over second-skin jersey for elevated work-to-weekend dressing. By dusk, a slip dress resplendent in lustrous emerald silk nods to the heady minimalism synonymous with the 90s - another of Victoria’s most-treasured decades. Dresses, suiting, sequin skirts and pyjama-inspired separates are purposefully grounded with a flat shoe.

“I think we’ve all rediscovered a love for dressing for something. We don’t want to hide anymore. We want to show off a little, to make the effort.”

Redefined denim

Pairing perfectly with responsibly-made organic cotton shirting, VB jeans have an easiness that transcends trend for a truly timeless appeal. The new Stevie and Frankie jeans - with their relaxed, 70s nuances - are joined in the denim library by the form-grazing Olivia style, and a modern straight-legged silhouette: the Grace, to sit alongside the signature Alina jean - a generously cut flare with thoughtful patch pockets.
